That is what they teach and preach in any recovery program. Remember where you came from so that you do not return there. Remember the source so as to continue forward. So isn't that a contridiction to forgive and forget. Move forward not back?

MIstakes are good, we learn from them and move on. We do have to look back but only in reference. Hitler killed all those Jews. We will never forget that, and we dont want it happeneing again now do we?
Don't DWELL on the past. Dont continue to beat your self up over things, but you should remember how you felt in those situations so you are motivated not to be there again.

How that works out in my opinion is don't move back keep moving forward but don't lose sight of what happened in the past either. You have to be able to keep moving on without dwelling on the past, that doesn't mean you have to forget the past completely.

You can forgive not forget. you will always want to remember what the outcome of somethings are things so in that way you want get yourself back into that situation again.

you forgive to make yourself a better person and move on and not get i the same situation again (hopefully) you never forget to protect yourself and remember what it was that was so bad for you!

they ask you what did you do wrong and you tell the person that you forgive them and they would probably would say the same thing if they believe.
