There are two reasons why horses wear shoes. To protect their feet from man-made abrasive surfaces ie, tarmac, concrete. The second reason is due to the pressures and strains placed on horses in work they are shod for pathological changes in the foot and therapeutic and surgical ie, laminitis and navicular syndromes.
The horses hoof does not grow quick enough to compensate for the amount of work that they do, therefore shoes will protect the foot and enable it to grow, On average a horse will require shoeing approximately every six to seven weeks, according to work and growth. If little work is done it is then possible to remove original shoes, trim back and file the hoof and refit the old shoes.

Horses wear shoes if they are ridden on roads to protect the sole of their feet just like we wear shoes because we hurt our feet when we walk on sharp stones etc. If ridden without shoes the hooves crack and the sole becomes sore thus causing the horse to go lame so it cannot be ridden. And as the saying goes a three legged horse is no good to anybody.

Horses wear shoes because horses weren't meant to support the weight of a rider on their back. Shoes add extra support for their feet, and also protect them. They must be visited by the farrier often because in the wild their feet wear down at the same rate they grow, but in captivity they don't encounter the same type of terriain, so they must get their feet clipped.

Because we are cruel force them to and for no other reason. Full stop.
People claim that it is because the horse needs protection on its feet due to the concrete, stoney paths etc. But its pure rot!
Horses survive in the wild with no shoes and I can tell you now, the ground they have to walk over is ten times rockier, harder and uneven than our horses will EVER have to deal with.
The horses feet are rasped into an unnatural shape for the shoes to fit which causes more problems than it solves. Look around at how many lame horses there are out there. You hear terms like pulled tendon, dropped coffin bone, laminitis etc. But most of these conditions can be solved by taking the shoes off and encouraging the foot to grow into the shape it is meant to be, instead of filing it down to fit the shoes. With correct management a horses hoof can be made to be as tough as a Mustangs!
I expect people to give me the thumbs down for this answer, but I urge you to look into taking shoes off and finding a farrier who specialises in natural hoof care. Horses don't need shoes, and just imagine how much money you will save! Give them their feet back! It'll be like you taking off shoes that crush your feet and don't let you walk properly, then putting comfy soft slippers on. Bliss!

To protect their hoofs and 'feet' from excessive wear, as well as cracking and chipping. In the wild, the terrain they experience is mostly soft, and we humans work them MUCH harder than they would work in nature. For these two reasons, we shoe horses' hooves.

when a horse walks on pavement and hard roads it grinds the hoof which would eventually cause lameness when wearing shoes it stops hard ground from wearing away there hooves, there shoes were out that's why they need new shoes.

It's like wearing nail polish or shoes yourself they protect the hoof and help support to keep them from damage and splitting.
