Quick tip. Take a 2x4 and cut a section off. Use this as a guide when installing fence pickets. All you have to do is make sure your first picket is level then put the 2x4 section you cut off next to the picket you just installed and then install your next one. This really makes the job go a lot faster.

generally it is narrow enough so that a child cannot poke his head through.
the zoning issues are differnt for each county, state and type of fence.
Check with your local building department and zoning commitee before building any fence.

4" is the standard. No child can get their head stuck in anything smaller than that. Just think of how big your childs head was at birth! In Michigan, 4" is standard.
