My computer keeps shutting down whenever I run the Sims 2. I ran EasyInfo and it said my computer meets all requirements. I have a 30GB C drive and 30 GB D drive, and have about 20 GB free. I used to be able to play the Sims 2 fine. Do I need more free space or is it a bug?

How do I check the system RAM?

It says 446MB RAM

It shuts off about 5 minutes into it. I checked and my RAM is too low. So I'll get that fixed, I guess. Thanks!

Ouch, that's frustrating. I'd also had the same problem with one machine I own that is an office machine, but not a gaming machine. If the machine has the 'bare minimum', that means it may be able to run with the bare minimum if all other things are also favorable and things are not running in the background.

If you're not into technobably, try using this to run a test on your machine
In the black box, pick The Sims 2 - or the version in question

The more red areas you have, the more you need to address on your system.

At which point does your game start to shut down? At startup? then that's likely due to hardware, like your video card being too old, or too much software running at the same time. Turning off background programs with control-alt-del can help a little but the main issue is you need a robust CPU. One that is close to or over 2 GHz is better for the game.

If your game runs but only crashes with some families or lots, then maybe there is too much stuff on the lot to process well. Turn the video card settings in the game to the lowest quality. How to do that is in the neighborhood view, select the three dots on the green control on the bottom left and then go through the gears settings and video settings to make them low as possible.
