It is fun to watch them all. I feed them suet and mixed bird seeds with black sunflower seeds. AND dried Corn cobs and peanuts in the shell for the squirrells. What do you feed them? Is this the best time of year to feed them?

In the fall you should QUIT feeding them so the migratory birds leave. If you don't stop feeding them, then they wont leave, and have severe chances of dying. Then after the 2nd -3rd HEAVY frost you can start feeding again. The non migratory birds will then come back to the feeders and be happy there all winter long, just remember you need to provide fresh water to them in the winter as well. That usually means a heated birdbath, or changing water several times a day

"Habitat is a very important factor in attracting birds: an area with trees and shrubs will be the most likely to appeal to them."

in that case i think it will such a wonderful idea to start feeding early in the fall season before the birds become set in their winter foraging patterns...

here are some more info about other people and their kind thoughts, good luck and don't stop helping...thank you for your great question

I think winter is. I'm not real sure tho. I know there are times we aren't suppose to feed them because they need to move south. They are on the move here and the other day I had some old bread and thoght to throw it out but mom told me not too....SO I'm not sure. I was wondering the same thing when she told me not to feed them. Good Question!

Common sense tells me that food is the most scarce in the winter. Not to many bugs around in January. Poor cold hungry things.
