I feel strongly about this, most American 'comedy' is sooooo..cheesey, they need a moral moment to hug each other. Friends..3 cute guys, 3 cute chicks who have this mega expensive flat in,NY where does the money come from. Everything else is a sanatised version of Brit comedy i.e. will & grace, gimme, gimme, gimme! Their office was a flop, as they could not deal with the PC issues....total tossers

OH for chris sakes, give me a break, brits come out with a couple of funny shows in a period of what? 30 years?! Yeah, those reruns are getting pretty stale after 2, or 300 times.
America is on top when it comes to comedy, we're the Entertainment Capial of the World.
Think you're forgetting who started it off: Laruel & Hardy, Chaplin, the greats of the industry.
You guys have good tea, keep up the good work there!

American humor is lame because a lot of the people in America are lame. It's a melting pot, meaning all walks of life and all levels of intelligence. (Why do you think "Blue Collar TV" is so popular?) So some of humor must be explained so broadly that it loses it's flavor.
However you over generalized much of America. There is smart humor,it's just in more "indie" flicks than in mainstream. "The Chase," "A Fish Called Wanda", "Clerks", "The Ref" all examples of smart American humor.
I love comedy and a lot of it's forms. Smart humor is fun, but every once in awhile you need something to break it up that's not so smart. ("Pirates of the Carribean" is an awesome movie in that vein.) Brit humor is great, Indian-Bristish humor is way funny. ("Bend it like Beckham")
By the way, "Friends" is humorous, it's a character based humor sitcom, and it's amazing that it was still chuckle-worthy for ten years!

Actually, I'm not overly keen on British comedy either!
American comedy is too slap stick and/or obvious, I think the script writers assume the American audience is too stupid to understand subtle humour, or the fact that it's all in the delivery. A better example for you would be Seinfeld, sorry people, but that show was NOT funny! Nor was Everybody Loves Raymond.

Don't blame us for the American media groups being so stupid.I love British humor like Monty python, the Goodies or Red Dwarf but it seems the people in power in the media here are too busy pushing their agenda to have entertaining shows.

I agree totally. You guys have The Office and..........I don't know, Benny Hill? Forget that friends was popular throughout the world. We MADE them like it, and gave them our lame sense of humor. Why do Brits have bad teeth? Why are all the girls ugly? Life is full of mysteries...

I completely agree. I am American, but my father is British, but I do not find American humor entertaining. Actually, I find it EXTREMELY annoying, to the point that I want to rip all of my hair out. Argh, I have no idea how the majority of the shows here get so much praise when all of them are complete sh*t. That is the main reason why I resent television and mainstream movies, they are all meaningless.
