Silly girl, that's what the dance classes are for! The first class is scary because it's new and you've never been before. Relax. You'll be great! Just have a good time and remember: Everyone else is there for the same reason you are.

Just go to class and have fun! Dance class is a place to learn and practice and have fun. Don't worry about it if you're totally new to dancing, I have a feeling you're not going to be the only new person in class. No one is going to judge you if you go in with no dance knowledge. If you're still really worried about it, watch some dance movies like Save the Last Dance, Honey, Center Stage, or The Company. Also, you might want to ask if any of your friends have any experience and can help you out before class. Have a wonderful time and enjoy your classes!

The best way to learn how to dance is by letting yourself go and follow the rithym.
As a Puertorrican I know this to be exactly what you need do. Notice the new popular dances from Daddy Yankee, Looney Toons and the others. They simply let go and follow the rithym.

Now if you wan to see some movies to that effect there's a variety of these with Fred Astaire, Kurt Russell, John Travolta, Jennifer Lopez and others.
John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever for example will show you dances from the 1970.

Now you must define yourself in what type dance do you want to learn. Spanish-salsa, merengue, rumba. English-rock, blues, country. Once you are defined in what your goal is then, let yourself go and do it. These all have different names but none are difficult to learn.

Drive on. After swimming, dancing is the greatest way to stay in shape and always feel strong, active and ready for anything.

You can't learn dancing from movies. Whaever they show in the movies is not good enough if you really want to learn. Dancing in the movies is just like other movie tricks - not real most of the time.

Go to dance classes if you really want to learn. Or, buy some instructional videos. What kind of dancind did you have in mind? This website has some short free videos for Latin and Ballroom.

Go to a club, (not neccisarily the above mentioned type) get out on the floor and have fun. Start grooving to the beat, maybe watch other people.
