I have been organizing my personal library, and I have at least 100 books I would like to donate somwhere. They are in perfectly good condition, most of them are old school & college textbooks that I would hate to recycle. Used bookstores do not want them either.

I would say the public library. When the library in my town takes books on donation, if they don't already have enough copies of the book, they will put it on the shelf for people to check out. If the book is in bad shape, outdated, or they already have ample copies, they will sell it at a very low price in the "bargain basement". Though I like the Salvation Army and Goodwill, donating to the library will probably allow the for the most use of the books. Rather than one lucky soul getting the books, you get to share them with the community. Even if the library does end up selling the books, the money stays within, and supports, your community.

I would look up the ISBN numbers of the text books online before you get rid of them, if they are still being used you can sell them on e-bay or sites like that. You could also check with your local college, the college I attend has a used book sale every year and use the $$ raised to buy dictionaries and other books for public schools that need them. If all else fails, have a garage sale and just donate the $$ u make.

One way to keep it local and help your community would be by giving them away via Freecycle.org Freecycle connects you (via a Yahoo group) with other community minded individuals within a defined geographic area. Freecycle puts items to use that people don't want/need that might othwerwise end up clogging a landfill.

Wouldn't the school or college student union maybe pass them on to someone who needs them or cant afford them. Or else donate them to a Charity shop or church bazaar. Don't throw then in the bin , someone can and will want them.

You can donate them to a Thrift Store, or you can give them to a School Library.

If they are old textbooks, they may be out of date and therefore really not of value..recycling may be to only option.

Check the ISDN Numbers to see if any are still inuse somewhere.
