I've had this happen to me. All you need to do is buy a automotive floor jack (the kind with the long handle and wheels - about $100) and if someone blocks your car, put the jack under the center of the rear end, jack it up so the tires are just off the ground, and then simply drag the car sideways. Do the same to the front (be careful not to crush the oil pan) and repeat this until it's out of your way. Shouldn't take more than 10 minutes.

This will have the triple effect of...

1) getting it out of your way
2) sending a clear message to the idiot owner without causing damage
3) putting his or her car in a likely spot to get ticketed

I've done this before and it works like a charm. They'll never block you, and quite probably anyone else, again! ;-)

the 1st rule of the highway code you do not cause a obstruction when parking the coppers can tow it away they can clamp it they can sort out any car that is illegally parked causing an obstruction you never block any ones right of way if you knowingly do then you should not be driving without more knowledge of the law or better still get a giant tin opener give it some of that cut a sun roof out for the owners

I don't think that it's actually illegal to park across someones driveway even if they block them in. Unless there are Double yellows outside then the police probably can't help. The potato sounds like a good idea but don't get caught...

Take pictures of the car blocking you. After the police come to ticket the car and the tow truck has come to tow the vehicle away. Find out the person contact information and send them a notice that you are taking them to small claimscourt /judge judy/court for causing you to miss an important meeting/concert/work/etc.

Include your contact info.

Settle out of court.

cash your settlement then key their car.

The next time, b/4 you park, or b/4 he parks, Just park your car a little differently than you do now..............meaning either pull
your car up a little by 1 foot, or back a little by 1 foot, then you may take up the space he needs to park his car....Does this make sense? The police should be able to site him.....Good luck with this!

call the police in the 1st instance, talk to your local council about it as well, but in most cases I doubt you are actually being blocked in illegally.

someone could park across the end of your drive and it would not be illegal

Your only option is to call the police who will send a tow truck to remove the car. The owner of the car will then have a hefty fine and towing charges to pay.
