Last year I had to do an onstage kiss. It really wasn't too big of a deal...just a kiss at the end of the play (although on the last night my leading man stuck his tongue in my mouth...p.s. he's a smoker). Now I have the lead in a play ("It's a Wonderful Life," adapted from Capra's classic film). If you've seen the film, you know that the kissing is frequent and there are a couple of really passionate, intense, dramatic kissing scenes (e.g. the telephone scene). I even think the play added a couple of kisses in the stage directions. Can anyone give me any advice on how to perform this CONVINCINGLY. I'm not worried about "Oh no! I have to kiss a boy onstage!" This time it's more how do I do it convincingly, especially with so many intense scenes?

Ask him to kiss you under the nose, rehearse it as many times as necessary, until you feel comfortable with the way he does it.

It's not as difficult as it may seem. Speak to your acting partner directly, guarantee him that you'll always brush your teeth/use breath mints (so he'll get the idea if it hadn't occurred to him!) and ask him if he's comfortable rehearsing the scenes with the kissing in them (once you're both "off book"--you have the scenes memorized.) Then, just kiss him when your character is the initiator or make choices about how to let him know you want to be kissed, if your character doesn't initiate the kiss. In other words, DON'T ACT. Instead, really DO what the scenes call for.

And by the way, just because it says in the stage directions that you kiss passionately, feel free to explore with the director and your acting partner how you kiss and if you even do in each scene. If there are lines referring to the kissing, it has to take place. Otherwise, the stage directions merely indicate what was done in the first professional production.

talk to the guys you have to kiss before hand
tell them i want to make this good but i don't want your
tounges in my mouth!!
then talk to the producer/director to see how passionately you have to kiss each guy
i know this sounds weird but you could practice to get it right!
