I mean that this medium is supposed to enable you to tap into a vast amount of knowledge, and it does to a degree but certainly not the sum of human knowledge.
So the question is :- Why not scrub round it and just tap into any of the huge amounts of knowledge which you can access at any of the vast number of web sites ?
As a bonus, you would totally avoid all of those stupid 'nerdy' answers.

In answer to your title question - no!
In answer to your detail question - If I really want to know something factual, I go anywhere else but here, for example Wikipedia is my usual starting point.
That said, what I come here for are questions that are a bit less rigorously documented elsewhere like gardening tips, local knowledge and surreal/weird/abstract stuff, but mainly for the opinion based questions - like religion, society and politics.

It may be addictive in its own right (which is why I assume that the asker still uses the site), but you're right that it's not what it could be. You do get good answers to questions but you often have to filter them out of all the rubbish, the joke answers, and the insults. It also gets hijacked by people using it as a general community forum to spread their views, often extreme ones: something like "why are martians so arrogant?" really means "I think martians are arrogant; now let the answering chaos begin..."

It's a shame really, perhaps members should have to take a test to determine their civility and that they have more than a few brain cells, before being allowed to join; but I suspect Yahoo is actually quite happy with the result even if it's not what they expected.

I prefer unsliced bread so most things are better than sliced bread.Anyway, I'm rubbish at surfing the net i.e. I cant even find the site which tells me how to surf the net and discover the vast knowledge out there. Its a vicious circle!

No not really, I think the perforated roll of toilet paper is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I can remember as a child the only type of toilet paper was that shiny stuff in little individual tiny sheets that came in a flat thin box. Compared to the modern roll of soft, absorbent double ply toilet paper, what is Yahoo? Can it tell you when the modern perforated toilet roll first came on to the market?

The people on here can range from the sheer brilliant to complete morons, but they are people..Not an automated responce !.
