A check shirt is very western, but I recon you could just as easily get away with a white shirt, as long as you wear it with the right sort of flared skirt, and the boots and hat that you discribed.

And a bootlace tie. Put your outfit on and look at yourself in the mirror. If it doesn't look right, then it isn't right.

A white shirt would be just fine.. If you really want to "westernize" your white shirt, get a Western String tie.. You can get these at a Western store, or at a second hand store for not much money, and they really "make" the Western look complete...
