I don't really know alot about computers. I just got a new modem, and my computer seems alot slower than it was with the old one (both are 56k), especially when I'm on website with lots of pictures. It takes FOREVER for those pages to load. Are there any settings I need to look at or adjust? I really hope there's someone out there who can help!

Unfortunately, optimizing dial up connections is very limited. Dial up uses a telephone line to connect to the Internet and telephones lines can not exceed a speed of 56.6 kbps (kilobytes per second). You can tweak your dial up to get it as close to the maximum limit of 56.6 kbps but that's it. I recommend you use TCP Optimizer, a free software program, which tweaks your Internet connection settings. All you need to do is select the connection type you use (i.e.dial up) and TCP Optimizer will do the rest. The download link is: http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php

CableNut is another free program you can use to optimize your connection speed; however, it is a little bit more complex and best suited for computer geeks. The download link is: http://www.student.ipfw.edu/~gottjl01/. There is a good tutorial on how to use CableNut at Extremetech.com.

Lastly, read Lifehacker's article on how to survive a slow connection for tips on how to make dial up more bearable.
