the switch is hard to turn, will not turn to acc, and my glow plugs won't work?

I know it sounds too easy, but there is a chance that if you flood the lock cylinder and the surrounding housing with WD-40, it may remove some of the deposited debris from the moving parts. If it doesn't help, you will have to remove the steering wheel and lubricate the pull-rod inside the column tube.
If you still want to replace the lock cylinder, (the part with the key) do it with the steering wheel off. There is a retaining screw behind the lock-plate that has to be removed to change it without damage to the shift bowl.
The ignition switch is located about 2/3 of the way from the wheel to the bottom of the column. It is held on with 2 screws, and the wheel doesn't need to come off to replace it.

The switch is activated by a rod that runs down the under side of the steering column. All the key does is turn a lock cylinder. To get this out turn it to accesary and stick like a paper clip in the hole on the side where the key goes in. That should release it and you can pull it out.
