I am finding mounds of poop (approx the volume of a Hershey's kiss) on my back slate stone walkway. It is happening at night on a 7 foot long stretch off my back deck stairs - it's a section between my house and a raised hot tub, so the area is sort of secluded. I can't find any web sites that identify poop. Someone told my it may be toads (they like dark, moist and damp). The poop only occurs along the 2 inches of moss I have planted between the rocks. The poop mounds are made up of tiny spheres of poop - all dark brown. I have set up video survellience, but the light keeps the perps away. Has anyone else had this problem?????? I can't "dry out" the area - there aren't any plants and I obviously can't move the tub or house.
Thank you

I think toads are the culprits! Check your potted plants, the toads often live in the pots during the day and come out at night to feed and---well, you know the rest

Toads. Worth it-they eat a lot of bugs, and the poop is not that hard to clean up-just rake into your flowerbeds for fertilizer.

you may have gnomes. They are extremely mischevious and like to play tricks. Especially around hot tubs...be careful if you get in, they may have left presents in there for you as well. And as small as they are...yes they poop that big. Just watch our for the gnome kings droppings...those are ginormous, equivalent to a gerbil or small hamster.

Are you sure it is not worm castings? Toads are not that careful to only use a mossy area, nor are other critters.
I vote worms and they are no big deal.
