i attend a small-town school, i'm asian, my gpa is about 3.75, my got 1750 on the sat, but i'll take it again (estimated score:1900). i'm taking the most challenging classes in my school. i took ap chemistry and got a 4 on that, this year i'm taking ap biology and calculus. i got 660 on the SAT II chemistry, 720 on Math IIC, and 800 on Chinese. i'm in a lot of extracurriculars, such as president of model UN and debate club, vice editor in chief for the school newspaper, student council representative. i also do volunteer work for the UN, and i'm an assistant editor for a community newsletter. my essays are good, and my recommendations are not far off.
i'm thinking about schools like HARVARD, MIT, STANDFORD, AND UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN. i don't know if i can get in with my mediocore gpa and test scores. anyone help?

those schools sound like they'd be a good fit for you but you might want to look at some top in-state schools because of the reduced tuition, if that's a factor. U of M is good but so is U of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (I must say I'm biased though, as that's where I am going). Also, make sure that you factor in the major you plan on pursuing when choosing schools. Harvard certainly has the brand name cachet but it may be lower in some areas than lesser known schools. I'd say try applying to the top ones that you mentioned but there are a lot of other top ones that may work even better for you. Hope this helps, it's just my opinion though.

It's too bad you see a 3.75 gpa as mediocre. I know some school systems weight honors and AP grades so gpa's are higher. Does your school do that? I'm not familiar with SAT scores, but schools don't look solely at gpa's and test scores to decide who gets in. It looks like you have a lot of good things to put in an application, and they will certainly notice the AP classes.

The important thing is to do your best without making yourself crazy. There are a lot of good colleges that produce very successful graduates. See if you can look at your chosen schools' websites to find out if they have info on admission requirements and statistics. Your school counselor may have information as well. But don't get discouraged if your first choices don't work out. You seem like a hard worker and I'm sure you'll be successful.

3.75 is nothing to scoff at. I believe that, depending on the other number of entrants you have about an 90-95% chance of getting in. You can also pull up your GPA a little if you keep making A's(which it sounds like you don't have much trouble doing). Good luck!

With a resimae like that, you could get in nearly anywhere.
However, if you attend a small-town school, they're less likely to look at your resimae first. Make sure that you really stress in some creative way how important this is to you, and how wonderful your grades are. That will catch their eyes.

P.S. I have a 4.0 GPA...even.
