I just had my oil change and the mechanic noticed that I have pink coolant in the tank and green coolant in the radiator. He said that this is very bad and suggested I flush it. Is he right or just trying to make money?

he is right if you mix the green stuff with the red stuff it will turn in to sludge and clog your cooling system and you will over heat.

no matter what anyone says yes you can mix the 2. All you are doing is taking a longlife 5 year coolant and turning it into a 36k mile 2 year coolant. The other way around dont worry about it at all.

When the "pink" coolant first came out we tried an experiment, we took an aluminum pop can and cut off the top, polished out the inside to remove the protective coating and added half gm dex-cool and half "green stuff". we set it on the shelf for 3 days and it had eaten through the aluminum (your aluminum head)

The color changes reflect both additives and heat range of the coolant. The pink GM color is a long term fluid, 100,000 mile changing cycle, green is your basic eveyday fluid. If your owners manual says something like this " NEVER, NEVER, Mix your antifreeze PINK with Green", don't. I bet it won't say that though.

It'll state in the manual what you can use and what you can't and if there are issues with mixing them.

you will get horror stories and "it'll b ok" stories forever on this one. to b safe,if coolant has not been changed recently, have it done.its cheap insurance & should b done at least every 2 years.dont believe this 5 year stuff.many an engine has turned into a boat anchor because of this. personally,i use premium green stuff(brand name starts with "p")
