When I was 10 or 11, I went as a book. Thought up the idea and made the costume myself, from two big pieces of Bristol board--one for the front cover and one for the back--attached somehow (with string, I guess) so that the whole thing dropped over my shoulders like one of those advertising "sandwich boards."
I remember that I put a quotation I'd found on the back cover. Unfortunately, I don't remember it (though I think it was from Kierkegaard), or the title I put on the front cover. The title and the quotation related to each other, and were probably about books or reading.
People seemed to get a big kick out of it--even those who didn't know what an avid reader I was.

I was a kid in the 1970's so I had a few great ones!!
The one that I loved the most and I do not know why really? Was my Dr Zaius costume. Dr. Zaius was a character in the Planet of the Apes

As small kids, my brother, sister and I dressed up as star wars characters. My sister and I were about 6-years-old, and my brother was about 4 1/2. My sister dressed up as Darth Vader, my brother was C3PO, and I was a Storm Trooper. Every Halloween someone asks me if I remember when we dressed up like that. Everyone always says how cute we looked and it reminds them of when we were little.

My best costume was not as a kid but as an adult. Friends of mine (a couple) and I coordinated our outfits.
We went as Mouseketeers.
She (Japanese-American) went as Karen.
He (bald) was Cubby.
And I was Annette.

I was a cowboy one year. I think I was 4, I even spread creamy peanut butter on my face and covered it with coffee grounds for the scruffy look
