I bought myself a scanner some time ago and I'm still trying to get to grips with it.

I've scanned a picture from a magazine, which measures about 8"x4" and I'm trying to send it to a friend via my Yahoo email account.

I've followed the step by step instructions, and now I'm at the stage where it says 'Please wait while we attach the file(s) to your message'.

The word 'wait' is very difficult to live with. How long do I have to wait? How long is a piece of string? How do I know it hasn't malfunctioned?

I don't mind waiting, as long as I know for how long. Yahoo mail doesn't let you know this. It's been 1/2 an hour now, and the progress bar is still bobbing along.

I've attached files to emails before and it shouldn't take that long.
What kind of connection do you have?
I am using DSL. Do you have dial-up, in which case it would take a long time?
Go to http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/
and see what you get.
I have 1282 download speed and 579 upload

The other point is the size of your file. Sometimes when you scan a picture the file size can get very large based on the resolution. You should use scan at a lower resolution, or use Photoshop (or similar graphics program) to downsize the image size to less than 200 kb. The file should be in the .jpg format at average quality, if it isn't .jpg then you may have to convert it.

That is an awful long time to wait. If you are scanning directly to email then try scanning to your image program and "saving" the picture with a name you choose as .jpeg or .gif. Then when you go to attach the picture just browse to the picture you saved and "attach" it. I'm sure that will take a lot less time.

Hope that helps.

you have to make the picture smaller.

I have tried to send pictures i took with my digital camera. If i try to email as it is, it will never be sent. Do you have a picture manager? Try cropping, or resizing the picture.

the bigger the file the longer it takes, yahoo has a limit and it will tell you if you have exceeded the limit after it attempts to attach it
