How many people think that a young woman’s reproductive rights should be ruled by the government…or even by her parents? Would YOU want someone telling you that you had to have a child, because you didn’t know about birth control, or couldn’t have an abortion, even if you were as young as 10?

Recently, the Senate, led by a few dedicated pro-choice advocates and NARAL-Prochoiceamerica, overturned Sen. Bill Frist’s attempt to deny young people access to birth control by passing the “Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act”, which NARAL termed “Cruel, Hopelessly Complex, and Unconstitutional”

According to NARAL: “The "Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act" would impose an impossibly complex patchwork of parental-involvement laws on women and doctors across the country with the goal to curb young women’s access to private, confidential health services.
The bill proposes a variety of new mandates on women, families, and doctors. Among other things:

(The bill forces doctors tto learn and enforce 49 other states’ laws, under the threat of fines and prison sentences.
(2) In many cases, CIANA forces young women to comply with two states’ parental-involvement mandates.

Theoretically yes, parents should have a right to control their daughters right to birth control and the right to have children. But in many/some cases no. I don't agree with the first answer that says if a person over 18 is living at home that the parents should still have a right. If your over 18 and living at home it would be better for the parents to just kick the ADULT out. If your under 18 there are still exceptions. Your parents might not want you having access to birth control, but wouldn't it better for kids to have access then to get knocked up. I also don't believe that the government should have any say in the matter of Birth control. They don't have to live their lives with a child they hade when they were 12, the teen does. Now for the matter of abortions: this gets touchy. Parents have a say in this when their child gets pregnant, but I personally think that its the teen's choice. If your old enough to have sex then you should be old enough to have the child, but its your choice. Theoretically though parents have the right to choose since their teen is a minor. Kids shouldn't be having kids. I personally believe that teens should have the right to birth control (condems, the pill, patch, etc.) even if parents don't want them to. But things get tricky when it comes to the matter of minors and medication.

A girl can determine whether she is pregnant by using a pregnancy test from a drug store. Since having an abortion is a serious decision and aside from the morality of abortion, it may have psychological and health consequences for the young woman, perhaps having parental involvement is not such a bad thing so long as the option to have an abortion is not abridged by the law.

For adult women the decision to have an abortion should be her own.

Well, i think the parents should until she moves out for good, but if she gets preggers and is like 14-17 or some age like that, they cant tell her to get an abortion, and they shouldnt... they should just kick her out and let her see how she ****** up her own life... That way she can look back and remeber her parents always saying, "Always use a condom!" ~lol~.. but thats just what i think... Because children now-a-days are dating at 9, but hell, their parents are stupid and need to be parents, not "Friends"... PARENTS: PUT YOUR FOOT DOWN ON DATING AND SEX!!!! Thats all.

Asolutely the parents should have control...however if the girl gets herself into that sort of situation, then the parents never really had control to begin with.

In my opinion, if parents would parents thier children, talk to them, educate them, we wouldn't even need legislation like this. So my answer is yes, they should have reproductive control over thier daughter...by making sure she doesn't reproduce to begin with.

Abortion is moral because God says so. We have a good time the delivery of Christ on December twenty fifth. If God meant us to have self belief that human life begins at theory then we will be celebrating Christmas 9 months formerly on March twenty fifth. i do not keep in mind 3 sensible adult adult males or a brilliant celebrity overhead at the same time as God impregnated Mary in March of that 12 months. hence life, in accordance to God, begins at delivery.

Yes, parents should have control over their MINOR CHILDREN THAT YOU HAVE OMITTED TELLING US!

THESE ARE NOT "YOUNG WOMEN," THESE ARE GIRLS, ADOLESCENT UNDERAGE MINOR GIRLS that need permission to get shots from the school nurse or to go on a school field trip!

Those seeking to take away parental rights need to face charges in a court of law!

How old is the daughter?

If she's under 18, then YES the parents should have control.

If she's over 18 but still living under the parents' roof and the parents are supporting her, then YES in that case too!

Only when she's over 18 and supporting herself can she have any say in the matter. IMO. But, hey, you asked didn't you? :-)

Having control for too many people, unfortunately, means doing nothing until it is too late.

Parents should have control over their children FULL STOP

Until she is 18, I do not think she should have any reproductive rights. After that, she is legally old enough to do whatever she pleases (within legal reason). Just because babies are capable of having babies doesn't mean they should. Just my opinion!
