I don't think you have to read anything heavy to fill stimulated.
A funny, laugh out loud book can be a great way to get the brain into
gear and feel more positive.

I don't think there is any sort of genre to define stimulating reading. I think it's anything that interests you, and possibly makes you think. I'm fascinated by non-fiction books about the Chronicles of Narnia, but obviously they aren't everyone's cup of tea.
No one should be forced to read something because everyone ELSE calls it good. People have told me that Eragon is FANTASTIC. I made it about two chapters into it. And promptly got bored.

from an intellectual point of view, i think it's something that you still think about hours or days or even months after you finished reading it. maybe you're trying to figure out if you agree with it, or why you disagree, or maybe you just feel that it's a point of view that you had never considered. maybe it makes you look at the world and ask questions you'd never thought about before.
from a purely literary point of view, i think it's also something that grabs your attention, that you want to keep reading until you finish, that you pick up in the 30 seconds while you're cooking something in the microwave because you just have to keep reading it. you answer your mobile but you're distracted because you want to keep reading.

Reading material in which you can't put the book down, because you have become so engrossed in it.

A book that challenges your beliefs and makes you think or, for those English majors out there, a book chock full of literary terms--allusions, symbolism, alliteration, etc.
