Perhaps you can talk about the chat language and how everything you say in an email should be written as if you were writing a letter to the person. Don't use caps when writing to someone as it appears that you're shouting. Don't send excessive emails when someone doesn't reply within a few hours. Give it a few days.
Very cool that you're doing this!

1) KISS (keep it simple stupid)
Writing a book via email is the easiest way to get your email discarded before reading. Be short and to the point.
2) Use email only when necessary
Many people replace human interaction with email as they hate dealing with people - even though it takes them longer to craft the email that it would picking up the telephone.
3) Learn to use proper grammar
Nothing worse than an email that sounds like a street kid wrote it.
4) Use a spell checker
Uggh! I hate reading email with improper spelling.

It's called email because it's *mail*. Write an email the way you would on paper, whether it's business or personal.
If it would embarass you to print it, why send it as an email? Just because it's not printed doesn't mean it's not permanent or it isn't damaging.
If you don't agree, ask Mark Foley.
