First turn the whole number into a fraction.

2/1 * 4/4 = 8/4

Then add like terms.

3/4 + 8/4 = 11/4

Then you could leave it a fraction or turn it into a mixed number or deciaml.

y = 11/4

or

y = 2 3/4

or

y = 2.75

Uhh...that's rather simple.
3/4 + 2/1= 2 and 3/4 (mixed number) or 11/4 (improper fraction)

y=2 and 3/4 or 11/4
