I went on a job interview with a company that i thought was laget but now i am second guessing my self because of the setting and location of the interview. Then they wanted me to pay for my background check, credit check and the classes that I would be taking up front before i even knew for sure that i had the job. So i did the stupid thing and wrote a posted dated check for $199. i am not sure if i have been scamed but i nned to know before the date on the check....any advice

Yes, you have been scammed. A legitimate employer will eat the costs of these background checks etc. as a cost of doing business. I would put a stop-payment on that check at once.

Never pay anyone for the privilege of working for them.

I don't think post dated checks are honored anymore. They are paid when presented for payment. But call your bank and if the check hasn't cleared, put a stop payment on it. They'll charge you for this, but you'll save a lot. This definitely sounds like a scam and a way to find out confidential information. Think of how many interviews a day at $199.00.

Yes... it may have been a scam.... Usually you do pay for your own background check and credit check, but you should be getting those yourself and presenting them with the checks......

Also with the courses, you shouldn't have to pay for that at all....

Call the bank and cancel the check...... and call the police and let them know everything..... And let the bank know to watch your account as well... HURRY....
good luck

Always thoroughly examine any outfit asking you for money up front. Always be on guard with a business that asks you for money to do such things as you mentioned. And, if possible re-schedule an another appointment under a different name, and this time have the police set close by somewhere and bust there ***!

Sounds like a scam. I have heard of some employers charging you for a drug test if you failed it while you are in their employment, but never before you are hired. Background checks can be done through the state with a fingerprint card and $27.00. Unless they are providing employment as a temp to perm type position I would cancel my check and say no thanks.

Totally sounds like a scam. HR departments of decent companies have a budget for the interviewing process. Even if you got the job, would you want to work for such a cheapskate company? I would expect they coudn't even afford to pay you.

STOP PAYMENT on the check NOW!

Never, I repeat, never pay anything to anybody for an interview. Period.

Contact your bank first thing Monday Morning.

I'd certainly think it was a SCAM!
I would put a stop payment on the check and report them to the BBB and the state attorney general.

You better put a stop on that check immediately. You've been taken. No doubt about it. Good thing you post dated the check.
