A song called simply Autumn from Peter Hammill's 1977 album OVER. The song is a metaphor of old age seen through the eyes of a couple which finds it hard to understand that their children have gone grown and gone away. This idea is represented through the image of birds that have become full fledged and have fled away. Superb, really!

Not really my favourite but I did enjoy singing 'Autumn days when the grass is jeweled;and the silk inside a chestnut shell; jet planes flying in the air to be refuelled' (etc) at school. Worst lyrics in the world!

Stereophonics - "Local boy in the photograph"
There's no mistake, I smell that smell
It's that time of year again, I can taste the air
The clocks go back, railway track
Something blocks the line again
And the train runs late for the first time...
Failing that Rockin' Stroll by the Lemonheads.
