energy, friction, and of course the source of the heat,,,
this could be a number of things, like electricity, fire, radiation, etc..... all will create their own factors within the elements of the solid...... ie: fulcroms for instance, would and could be one of them.

Heat energy, mainly in the form of vibration of the materials atoms. Some energy is lost by one atom and gained by another

Nature likes things to be in balance (equilibrium) and the transfer will continue until all the atoms have the same energy.

If the material is considered as a closed system (one end of the material is initially hot and the other cooler). Then eventually all the material will be at the same temperature. No heat energy will be lost, but the overall temperature will be between the two exremes. This is entropy in action.

Energy is passed from particle to particle. The energy may take a different form as it passes through the object (energy makes the structure vibrate more quickly) but this is manifested in the same way at "the other end".

ELECTRONS are liberated from metal by heat. That is why vacuum tubes have filaments. the filament heats a Cathode Sleeve and the Sleeve emits Electrons. It is a process of constant Ionization. When an Electron leaves and Atom, it creates a positive Ion.
