Why do Americans think that guns make them safer?

In a large poulation someone will go off their head every day and let off a few shells. Wouldn't it be safer if less people had access to guns?

Have you ever seen the documentary Bowling for Columbine by Michael Moore? It is amazing and it pretty much about this topic. It basically says that americans feel like guns give us power. From the beginning of America, americans have always had to have the upperhand and feel powerful. Guns do just this. They don't need them for protection...they need them to feel like they have control over something.

There is a fantasy based in reality that if you have a gun, then you can kill the baddy or drive him off.

And to a certain extent this is true .. if you are known to be armed, trained,and willing to act then baddies may pick lesser targets.

More so, the training it self will teach people not to be victims and to avoid bad situations.

But most Americans have not have the training mental and physcial that they need to deal with a situation with this. Nor have they trained with the weapon of choise.

I don't really want to see America defanged. Look what happened to Japan just before the Mejii Restoration. A fictional version that is fun to watch is the movie "the last samurai" with Tom Cruse.

Because I talked to a secret service agent once. He told about being wolf-packed by a bunch of bad guys, he pulled his weapon and the bad guys disappeared.

In my state it can take upwards of thirty minutesa deputy to respond to certain parts of a county. Los Angeles PD says their average response time is 15 minutes. It takes a person thirty seconds to bleed out if their neck is slashed.

We have had mountain lion attacks in this state, I'm too old to fight one off with a knife, let alone my bare hands.

The Supreme Court has had several decisions where they have declared the Police don't have to respond to a call.

Hurricane Katrina.

The first recorded murder was with a rock. The last murder in this town was with a kitchen knife.

Bad guys go for the path of least resistance. The reason our crime rate is as low as it is the bad guys know that theirs a good chance if they try to rob someone they will be leaving the crime scene with .45 rounds in their body on a gurney.

Places like New York where almost no one has a way of protecting themselves, leaves themselves open to someone with more ability to take their life. Bad guys don't always just want your money, there have been to many story about them killing the victim after they rob them.

If you don't want to be armed go ahead, that's your right. But let those of us that have made the decision that we won't be victims have the right to keep our lives.

Why do you think it's only Americans who feel this way? Many people all over the world feel safer with a gun. The world wouldn't be safer if less people had access to guns because if fewer people had access to guns they would simply change to other weapons, such as a paper clip, letter opener, or a home-made roadside bomb. The world would be safer with fewer nuts who kill people.

If there's no guns humans use knives, stones, spears, poison (mostly females use this), auto accidents (kill much more than guns) and other devices. Please consider reading about George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, all the writers of the Constitution. The only reason America is still free is because no country would attempt to fight a people who bear arms in abundance. One last request ... use a search engine and look up the 2nd Amendment. we would be safer without cars too but i wouldnt want to live without one. dont forget the right to bears arms is protected by the constitution.taking away guns doesnt make people less violent. thats like blaming your keyboard for typing errors

I'm not gonna bother going into stats... you all have google... but considering less people dies in countries where guns are illegal than in countries, like America where they are legal, then the answer to your question is I don't know.

Yes i real agree with you . Guns are to easy to get now.
If people did not have them they could not shoot . even if they are very sick people and their is a lot of them out their .
