there are at least two ways of saying "it was fun" or just the word "fun". but they mean the same "fun",
1. Tanoshii (fun)= ex. you are with your best friend and you're both playing your favorite game and you really enjoy playing it.
You laugh from the bottom of your heart. and after playing you say "it was fun"...so when you say it in japanesse you say "tanoshikatta "or tanoshikatta ne".
2. Omoshiroi "fun"or"funny"= ex. you're watching funny films and you did enjoy it so you say "omoshirokatta" or "omoshirokatta ne".
remember that you use the word "ne" when you are talking to somebody, a friend for ex.
and take note that the word "katta" is a past tense .

it was fun= omoshirokatta
pronounced oh-moh-shee-lo-kat-ta
And between kat-ta, there's a little pause, or something like it. Hard to explain in English really.

Tanoshii - Fun
Tanoshikatta da yo! - It was fun!
The katta turns it from present tence to past tence.

It's "tanoshikatta." You don't need the "da"--that's like saying "It is was fun." The "yo" is optional but slightly emphasizes your point.

in conjunction you use your mouth, tongue, vocal chords, and lungs to create a verbalization and you say "fun in japan"....it's really easy...all those bodily parts seem to work together naturally
