I never use that word because is unnecessary, but considering that puertoricans have black blood too (descended from African people), would they get offended anyway same as a white person saying it?

Even if it's in a friendly manner, like what's up *****?

you're kind of generalizing the people. not everyone would get upset. some do because they dont have the capability to open their minds and accept, others dont because they dont care. the "n" word is a term used by many and it has become a part of the "cool" rap culture, which is also now, not necessarily black, but has become integrated in the American society. It would just be a good thing to say that many people get offended when the term is used, not just some black people, and that it is a word that just plainly shouldn't be used because of the negative connotation it has derived today.

I am black, and i take offense when ANYONE uses that word. I don't care what context it's used in or who is saying it, it's derogatory.
The notion that a word's meaning is variable depending on who is saying it doesn't fly with me. I, for example, find the word c unt
offensive, and it makes no difference if it's a man or a woman that says it. Your theory would make it ok for a woman to use the word, but not a man?

Yes, they get offended, just ask J.Lo. She said it once and got her *** handed to her. On the other hand Big Pun and all them other PRs that rap use it incessantly and nothing happens. I think it depends on if you are a woman or a punk, black Americans love to take advantage of the weak.

I hear it being used all the time by people of other races. High School kids black, white and hispanic use the term when referring to their friends all the time. I guess in todays day and time it's only derrogatory if it's meant to be derrogatory.

There's no good reason to ever use that word, so why try to find one?

Why don't you just say, what's up, c*cks*cker? But in a friendly manner, of course.

its just a word...one that has been around for a long time...pretending that it never existed is silly...facing it down is the right way to deal with it...when it ceases to bother blacks, it will not mean anything...to me it means you are insecure with your culture and buy into the idea that you are what people call you...i make a joke all the time that my name is as shole...i always answer and turn my head when my wife calls... "Hey as shole!"...but i dont buy into it.

Wouldn't it depend on the individual?
