I had to remove the stone to backfill about 4 inches of dirt and also on the side of the house where I put in a retaining wall.

Not unless you feel "real" energetic. The rain will take care of cleaning them. If you can't wait, go at it!!!

I would wash / hose it, to get rid of "growing medium" AKA dirt, that weed, grass etc seeds could germinate in.

use a bleach and water mix
