Queen Marie Antoinette was a strong-willed, worthwhile individual who loved France and her family. As the revolution continued, the people sought to rid itself of its Queen. Thus, they accused her of incest toward her young son, and was accused along with her sister-in-law, of doing such a wretched deed. This was untrue. Nevertheless, they accused the Queen of treason and other high crimes and murdered her anyway. France wanted to rid itself of all the royalty which was left. Thus, any excuse was sufficient in order for them to kill its royals. All I can think is that when one or a group of people wrongfully accuses and then murders someone, it will come back upon their heads. I would not like to be related to any of those who caused death to others, whether it was by guillotine or otherwise. Ultimately, there was no reason to kill Marie Antoinette. Remember this, "If God be for us, who can be against us?" - Romans 8:31. Peace and God Bless.

These were the times leading up to the French Revolution. And although the French almost had a sane revolution .. somehow things got out of hand and there was a tremendous blood lust which turned into a blood bath.
Tradition has it that Marie Antoinette was to have said as a reposnse to the fact that the people had no bread "Then let them eat cake".. She might have clueless and thought that if they did not have bread that they had cake left around (cake was very bread like then) or she might have just been being mean and sarcastic.
This phrase, other exceeses, and the hate for all royals is what brought about her doom.
Interestingly the truth is more interesting and complicated than the legend. I had no idea that she had cleaned up her early life and done charity work.

I think that Marie Antoinette became a scapegoat for the suffering of the French people. They needed a target to focus their blame and anger on, and being a foreigner, a woman, and royalty, Marie Antoinette was an easy target. Her husband was targeted too, but the real hatred, the real venom, was aimed at her.
Marie Antoinette was hated by the French people. Propaganda promoted her as lesbian, incestuous with her son, & promiscuous with men (all at the same time!). Austria was not a friend of France in her later years, and, being from Austria herself, she was accused of corresponding with them and commiting treason (which in fact she did do). She was INCORRECTLY believed to have said "let them eat cake" when told that the people of Paris were starving for bread. She in fact said that she believed the royalty should go out of their way to help the people who sacrifice so much for the country - but by this time, the country hated her so much that they created an image of her that led to her total destruction. It wasn't enough that they cut off her head - they wanted her name, her soul, every bit of her destroyed in the process. At her trial, they accused her of incredibly foul things, which I can't imagine how she withstood as a mother and human being.

Marie Antoinette was executed by guillotine on 16 October 1793 as one of the early victims of the Reign of Terror. Her execution stands out as she had her wrists bound behind her at the prison before the long ride via tumbril. (Most others executed were bound on site and had a more dignified route there, but then her Austrian heritage worked against her.) It has been said that among her last words were an apology to her executioner for accidentally stepping on his foot.

French revolutionary people killed her because she represented the monarchy at the time and so the waste of money they were. Her husband (Louis XIV or XVI I don't remember well) was a total failure, he didn't know what to do with his kingdom and started spending money in luxuries for his wife and family, but did nothing for the poor people. Things back in those days were extremely difficult for French people, most of them were starving and only monarchy and their court were doing great. Of course, french people resented that and when they got the opportunity, they cut off their heads (hers and her husband's)

Treason, but I don't really know under what conditions. It was obviously during the Revolution, so it could have been for anything, I suppose.

Mainly because she was a prissy little 'princess' who alienated the nobles, as well as the citizenry.

Because she was a ruling member of the French aristocracy. She represented all that was bad about the French class system at the time. When she said "Let them eat cake," she was expressing her disrespect and disdain for the common people.
Beheadding her was a symbol for the people, so they could take back their power.
