I went to the doctor a few days ago and was diagnosed with a UTI. I wasn't able to get my Rx filled until this morning. I've only taken one of the pills so far and because the infection has been sitting and growing I'm very uncomfortable. I feel like I have to urinate badly all the time, even if I don't. And when I do it HURTS. Is there anything I can do to help with the discomfort while I wait for the meds to take effect? I have to wrk in an hour or so and any help would be great.

Drink lots of WATER. It will start to lessen the pain and frequency. Also, get some 100% cranberry juice and some yogurt with active cultures so that you can make sure you keep your tummy calm and don't bring on a yeast infection.

Good luck!

There are some over the counter pills that you can take for the pain while you wait for the antibiotics to clear up the infection. I forget the specific names but if you go to any drug store and look in the section for UTI infections, you'll see things like cranberry supplements. Look specifically for medicines that say "for relief of pain caused by UTI or bladder infections". You must continue to take your prescription to clear up the infection but the over the counter remedies will relieve some of the pain and pressure that you are feeling. Be sure to take them with lots of water too!

There really isnt anything you can do other than taking your med and try drinking some cranberry juice. Thats what my mom does, and shes lived with UTIs all of her life. Youll feel much better tomorrow. It doesnt take long for the med to kick in.
