If you are using Microsoft Word, then use Insert => Symbol

On my PC, its in the 7th row at the end. Click on the character and press Insert

This should work on any Computer, first make sure that num lock is turned on then hold the Alt Key down and type 0176 on the numpad. If you commit that number to memory (which is quite easy to do) you can use it to type the degrees sign into anything, where as most other methods you cannot.

I thinks alt 162 is the degree sign

Insert the degree symbol and type a capital C after it.
