it is like tobacco. it strips the soil of nutrients very quickly. usually 2 or 3 growing seasons.

Considering that answer number one is correct, so can the same thing be said of a corn crop,,,no offense meant.
The Earth is very often disregarded in what we all may seem to think of as a constantly,,, SELF renewable source of everything we need.
BAD is relative.
Consider that Cotton is a natural substance that clothes us,,etc. Consider too that synthetics use resources, perhaps regarded more intensely by advocates of survival and saving the planet.
We get what we give. In the case of crops, we take a good harvest, and if we don't allow renewal of that plot, after a harvest, or don't do anything to aid in the renewal, eventually we won'y have a harvest to enjoy from that plot.
