First go to your local home improvement center and purchase the following, considering the deck is not new.

If the deck is new skip the following cleaning process.

1ea Nylon Push broom & handle
1ea 3 Gallon quality weed sprayer
1ea can of DECK KLEEN or equal deck cleaner

Sealing and staining:

5+- Gallons of Thompsons, Behr, or equal high quality deck
sealer
1+- Quarts of quality stain per your taste, to match or contrast
with your existing color scheme.

Application:

Spray deck with hose and nozzle and broom to remove any loose materials, bird manure Etc.

Mix deck cleaner per mfgrs. instructions, and spray it on deck, in all openings and cracks with sprayer, and brush all surfaces with the push broom. Follow Mfgs. instructions for rinsing and drying times.

Mix stain and deck sealer per Mfg. instructions and drying requierments. Set aside at least one gallon of this mixture for future touch up application.

Apply with sprayer using a semi fine sprayer adjustment being sure to mask areas around the home that you do not want to stain, and cover any landscaping materials.

Allow to dry per Mfgs. instructions and enjoy.

One caution: pressure-treated lumber cannot be painted or stained for a year. I made that mistake! Don't mess up like I did.......
