It is reputed to be as wide as 17 football (soccer) pitches which is approx 2.7 miles wide, this is pretty wide, it is the equivelant of 3 hospitals with car parking for 3,000, or 2 substantial civic buildings with politicians ego's thrown in.

Blue whales are actually quite sleek looking compared to some other whales. At the widest part, probably only around 15 foot.
