The normal information has been provided so far,but you can also start the car under compression, if your starter should fail or system to it malfunction! It will spin over pretty good in 3rd gear at about 10mph, after it should start hitting. You can let the clutch out to get the engine "windmilling, and push it back down after the engine starts, -- allowing you to get set up for normal driving, then put it in gear and off you go! You will have to have a good batttery (charged) though, as you need power to the alternator to make it provide charging electricity. When I started driving,- cars had generators, and as long s the generator was good, you could start the car with a "stone dead battery" and as long as you didn't let the engine die, you were ok!

in neutral with the clutch depressed . Most cars today have what is called a clutch defeat switch that prevents the car from starting in gear . but it is a good idea to have it in neutral so it doesn't pop into gear when you let out the clutch.

"Retarded Question"

Push the clutch Nerd.
That would be the Pedal all the way to the Left
keep it down and turn the key.
If you don't have a third pedal then maybe its not a stick shift. Lol
