Because NOBODY seems to care about petty crime any more, we have gone soft. Notice it is most common in areas such as London, Birmingham etc, where you get different cultures (black ppl, asians, white etc) having bad influence on one another, however where my friends like is a town which is VERY MUCH predominantly white people and there is hardly any anywhere. The police dont care about it, the people who do it dont get punished, we just have to live with this like all the rest of the crap we have to put up with in this s*** hole!!

Actually, graffiti art is a growing Urban Art form that is now recongnised in art schools. There is a huge amount of respect amongst the graffiti artists and the wannabees who just vandalise the streets with their 'tags' are frowned upon. The more respect that is built up, the more interesting the art is becoming. Take time to really look at some of the work and you will see a high level of skill and talent. Banksy is fun too.

Because the people are so common! There is none where I live, because it's a wealthy area and has very little minority groups...and I believe under priviliged areas and minority groups contribute to an area going down hill and crime figures going up...so there'd definitely be graffiti present in those areas.

I think it has nothing to do with ethnic minority groups! I ve seen just as much priveliged white kids vandalise. Its only that in the predominatly white areas people are quick to get rid of it, but in cities (which usually have ethnic minorities) no one bothers to clean it up.
Me being 13 I know that most kids vandalise becuase its a form of self expression( a bad one). Its also a way of get your brief second of fame.
There have been several times where Ive seen a scribble on a bus or wall and I know who did it or someone I know knows them straight away. They then feel kind of famous thinking that someone has read it. Most grafitti artists are quite talented they just need to keep it on a canvas!
By the way, why blame the US? Did you ever think maybe the British kids started it on their own?

cos Tony Blair is a mug. Round mine, at the Metro Station, the council asked some 'artist' to put 'art' on the wall, and the community service junkies thought some charvas had done it so they tried to scrub it off.

PS in the North we call them charvas, not chavs.

The kids can afford the paint but not the paper?
or
maybe you can't by big enough paper
or
they might be practising their handwriting
or
the person wiping it off is slower in the uk than elsewhere.
Hope that made you laugh even if it wasn't helpful!

They saw it in movies filmed in the USA and it looked like such fun to wreck the appearance of an expensive public building or a home with just a cheap can of paint.

its not just chavs and I dont think everyone should fall for this label scheme. Most of it is kids because they want to express themselves and have no where else to. Cause at school they dont let you do what you want
