From the way you worded that question, would I be right in guessing that you're interested in devising your own solos, rather than just learning the songs of your favourite guitarists?

A lot of people will hate me for saying this, but hear me out anyway:

DON'T place too much trust in guitar teachers. If you're going to take lessons, don't expect your teacher to make you into a great guitarist. Here's why: A good teacher can show you all the scales, all the tips and techniques, and all of the technical stuff a guitarist needs to know. What a teacher can't tell you is how to develop your own style, how to be creative, how to develop your own way of doing things, or how to have fun. I've know a guy who's been taking lessons for years and, although very capable technically, is still the most unimaginative and sterile guitarist I've ever heard. Why? Because he can only ever play in the style he was taught, and now thinks that anyone who plays differently is doing it wrong. Remember - Jimi Hendrix was almost completely self-taught.
What you should do is learn your scales and arpeggios (a good bookseller can sort you out with this information). Learn your chords inside out - a lot of wannabe lead players think chords are only for rhythm guitarists, and so never make any progress.

Tabs can be very useful. Again, make friends with your local bookseller. There are loads of websites that offer DIY guitar tabs, although there's currently an argument raging over whether 'tab-sharing' constitutes copyright infringement.

I can see youre new at this.

1). Arpeggios are a type of riff that is played on one chord but with different variations. Ex. Is there anybody out there-pink floyd
2). the main thing you have to learn to pul off massive guitar solos are to master the hammer-on and pull-off techniques because these are really important to give it a flowing sound. Get you a distortion pedal or setup. Learn the blues scale.

3). A great website for tablatures is www.ultimate-guitar.com

Great solos aren't random notes thrown together with the hope that they sound good. You use the blues scale and just play it on different frets and "improvise a solo" while using this as a template to work on.

an Arpeggio is a series of notes, usually three, which belong to a particular scale. Such as C - D - E.

To start learning to play lead guitar, try to find someone to show you some real basic stuff, Bending a string up to the next note is vital for most rock and blues solos.

guitar solos are done using creativity backed along with the knowledge of the scales, i play as well and if you have the opportunity to get along with someone who plays try to jam, one doing rhythm and one does the solos, solos need not to be complicated, if you have created a pattern that you can actually sing in your mind and flow of the notes are consistent then chances are you have created a good one.
for practice try learning Steve Vai or Joe Satriani, start of with the easy ones and then progress on to the hard ones, these songs will help your fingers and you will learn a lot on the tabs. patience is the key in all of these goodluck

You need a good teacher like me to show you some stuff.

And you need to develop your ears so you can copy stuff off records. If you can already play pentatonic scales, then you can do 90% of rock guitar solos already! Work on your technique. But most importantly, come up with your own stuff and don't try to copy other players...

Understand some music theory and you'll be well away
