All you need to be able to do is to prove that you are qualified,based on your education or experience. As bostonianinmo said, most states do not require a certification.

For example, I do 10-15 appraisals a month for bankruptcy and estate cases. The courts accept me as an expert because I have been in the automobile business for 27 years
