Yes on the palm tree, maybe a yellow wall instead, so it's brighter, then you can hang tropical like art to give it some punch. You could also have grass like drapery, or the coconut skin type. Check out some of the images at:

You could also cool tiki lamps and things made of bamboo.

What a cute idea! I would probably invest in some sheer blue shower curtains for one wall (water), paint one wall a textured tan (sand), love the fake palm tree idea but what about beach chairs instead of bean bag? I'm thinking the kind with the canvas sling and wooden frame. You could throw around some shell-shaped pillows on the floor, hang a Caribbean ceiling fan and your at the beach! Enjoy!

you know what? if you want your bed spread and sheets, look for a bed spread with a picture of a view looking out on the ocean and a palm tree and some sand. i recomend that you paint your walls a sea green.

Paint the frames around your windows white also, gives it a carribean look... Get some plain glass bowls and put a little sand in them, scatter some tiny shells over that and stick a candle in the middle. Get some sheer pastel colored fabric to drape over your lampshades.

Ropes and shells. Attach shells to the ropes. Pictures of sea and sand. Light houses. Buoys.
Fishing boats. Paint the ceiling pale blue, clouds, with sea gulls. Glitter, like stars, in a few spots that pick up light in the dark. You won't need much.
Or rhinestones, one hear and there.
Get a Sisal rug.

This is off the top of my head but:
What if you got four big panels covered in that dried grass stuff that they make beach 'huts' out of and suspended them from the ceiling as if they were a peaked roof of a hut? Then you could put four grass-covered poles in each of the corners of your room (as if they were the supports of the hut roof). It would be like being in your own open air tikki bar on the beach!!

You could incorporate shells, either alone or as a beaded curtain.
Also wind chimes have an outdoorsy feel, maybe even a hammock
