Anorexia nervosa or anorexia is a eating disorder . The person is obsessed with being thin. Anorexia is not just a problem with food and weight. It's an attempt to use food and weight to deal with emotional problems. These psychological disorders can range from anxiety, distorted body image, low self-esteem, perfectionism, starving oneself. and refusal to maintain body weight

There is a strong genetic link to anorexia, Your chances of developing it, increases if other people in your family are obese and have eating disorders or mood disorders, such as depression and anxiety. So there's some credibility to this belief.

Family and twin studies have sugested that genetic factors contribute to about 50% of the variances for the develoment of an eating disorder and that anorexia share a genetic risk with clinical depression. This evidence suggests that gene influencing both eating regulation and personality and emotions may be important contributing factors.

researchers have found...?...!...?...which researchers? who funded the'research'?... have other 'researchers confirmed or duplicated said research...It would depend on the credibility of the people making the claim and their willingness to have the research scrutenized and criticized.

I only believe research that has been proven more than once.
there is plenty of bogus psuedo science going around.
