Hi, well my SIL this time asked me if I could find her information on "hypoallergenic formulas".
You see her baby pediatrician told her to switch formula to hypoallergenic formula, to prevent any allergic the baby could ever have in time. The baby, the doctor said, has no allergic whatsoever.
So do you think is safe to give the baby a hypoallergenic formula if he doesn't seem to be allergic? He's 1 month old.

If the baby has no allergies I see no reason to spend the extra money on a special formula. I am no expert on the subject but would also think that once he was off of this special formula maybe he would have trouble dealing with real food since he has not been exposed to anything?

When my son was 1 mnth old, his pediatrician changed him to a Lactose Free formula, as he had had some problems with regular formula. Now that he is 10 months old, he switched him again to regular formula. He also adviced me not to give him foods that could cause allergy until later on so that he doesn't develop any allergies unnecessarily. So if the pediatrician said to switch i believe you should do that. They usually have a better view of what might come.

Good luck

There seems no need to switch if the baby has no allergies and the special formulas r much more expensive so there is absolutely no need to make the switch.

If he is not allergic why does the mother need to switch formulas anyway? No, you may want to look into getting another doctor.

it would probably be safe but pointless if the baby has no allergy to milk or soy formulas but if the doc said the baby needs to be on hypoallegenic formula maybe she should go ahead and do it. sometimes they recommend hypoallergenic formula for babies with colic
