I am in NJ and lately, I've noticed that a lot of flying bugs look like mosqutios in one section of my lawn. This is the end of summer and beginning of fall and it's hard to say they are mosquitos. I never noticed this kind of bugs in summer.

Does anyone know what they are and how to get rid of them ?

It's hard to say without a picture or more exact description -- the above answer may be correct. I live in very northern Ohio, and we get swarms of midges periodically throughout the spring/summer/fall.

The look and fly like mosquitoes, but are a bit larger, and they swarm around lights, and seem to hang onto windows everywhere. The midges are harmless -- in fact, they don't have any mouthparts at all -- they don't eat when in adult form. They only eat in larval form in fresh water. They rest everywhere, including lawns -- they are al over mine the past month or so.

They annoy the heck out of me, because of the mess they make and the spiders they attract, but they are an indication of a clean water supply nearby. They are midges, but are sometimes called "midgees" or "Canadian Soldiers". I have no clue why, but I'm sure it's from a stereotype somewhere!

Hope it helps!
