You could find work in a zoo. That works in the conservation of animals. I would go too the nearest zoo and ask then for advise on what qualifications you need and to give you more information on this line of work.
Best of luck I would love a job with animals too.

1.you could groom animals(that counts as helping them)
2.the animal shelter(they always could use help)
3.helping individuals locate and search for their lost pets
4.rescue abandoned or lost pets waunerdering around(you could take them to the shelter or maybe post signs up about a lost pet and shelter them until their owners are located or you've found them a new home)
5.volunteer to walk the dogs in your neiberhood if you know they owners or too bosy and could use your help.
6. a dog catcher
7.a zoo or petting zoo
8.a vet. or assistant
9.feed the birds or ducks

I dont know about being paid but ,look for your animal shelter,I help out their,and lots of people,good way to meet nice people,and its fun,
