If prisoners were given the option of serving their full sentence or serving a half sentence as slaves, would you own a slave. Say for example the government got tired of housing all the criminals, so they came up with a slave program. Imagine also that slaves would be implented with a special microchip that would prevent them from leaving your property by delivering an electric shock to them if they approached the boundary and you would also have a device that shocked them the same way if they rebelled. So you could be assured of complete control over them. How many of you would purchase a slave?

Got news for you. They ARE slaves.

13th Amendment goes something like this:

Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, EXCEPT AS A PUNISHMENT FOR A CRIME WHEROF THE PARTY SHALL HAVE BEEN DULY CONVICTED, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.

Your "devices" smack of an Orwellian world.

Having a device to shock them incase they rebelled would not work. You'd have to be on your guard 24/7. What would you do... lock them up at night like an animal? They could easily sneak up on you during the day too. It would never work. I think prisoners should be made to WORK. Re-build housing for the poor, work on farms to produce food for the hungry. Clean up the neighborhoods, there are lots of things they could do, without being someone's slave.

Sounds like a Hollywood story.
I would not for many reasons. It is unethical and immoral to do that. Prisoners still have rights. Prison is in theory at least meant to reform the convicts. I don't think ot ever happens.
I believe all human beings are equal. No doubt we differ in our abilities but, no one is superior to another. And trying to enslave someone will only lead to mutual violence and disruption of harmony. I hope everyone realizes this. It will put an end to all animosities.

Bad idea, b/c it will encourage the incarceration/slavery of more people on bogus charges like selling a dime bag or something.

The budget for reform of criminals should be subtracted from the military/intel budget appropriation. That way the ruling elite is limited in how much stupid, nefarious BS we have to pay for.

Crime could be solved easily. Just let everyone pack a piece and exclude themselves from socialization with anyone they didn't like.

First of all,you should be ashamed at the desire to OWN another human being like some peice of furniture. Before the 1860's many people Black or White, were sent to Debter's Prison because they couldn't pay their bills. Now, I wouldn't mind EMPLOYING a low risk prisoner at minimum wage. But I wouldn't degrade someone by placing a microchip under their skin to shock them. I live in Texas. I'd hunt you down if you escaped, lol.

No I would not own a slave. Jeez.....Slaves need food, housing, medical attention, just for starters. Then who is going to pay for this security you are recommending. And why oh why would I want a criminal under my roof? Bad idea not only morally, but financially too.

Well... I would get worried, you see if the government sold slaves and got money out of it then it would be scarey. Because, you wouldn't know if the government would purpously convict someone of a crime just to get free workers. Also there are slaves they are called illegal immigrants and they work for housing not for money :D

I would not want a criminal that should be in jail anywhere near me. Not being able to leave my property doesn't make them less criminal.
