The above answers may be confusing as one is wrong and another gives an incomplete answer.

The factors correctly identifed above are
7 and 9 for 63, as they multiply together to give 63, &
7 and 3 for 21,as they multiply together to give 21.

A factor of both numbers is 7, so we can write:

63 x 21 = 7(9 x 3), the brackets indicating multiplication, with the common number on the outside, written once.

3*3*7*7*3 or 3 to the power of 2 * 7 times 3*7
