If your valves are sticking you may have left the mower out in the weather. A worn valve guide will also make it stick. By taking the head off and the small cover on the side of the engine where you see the breather hose come out you can take the valve out and clean them on a wire wheel. When I put them back in I use a little STP on the valve stem. Wal_Mart sells a small engine repair manual. I don't know how good it is, but it should help you. You can try to library too for a manual.

How do you know your valves are sticking? This motors valves have a pretty strong spring. I recommend taking the motor apart and finding the problem and don't under any advice spray anything in the motor. To assure further use of this engine take it apart and clean it properly, if buildup is the actual problem ,which I truly doubt. You'll probably find another culprit in this case.

You could try a couple ounces of marvel mystery oil for inside the engine... never said if it was a side or ohv engine? Old side valves... a old trick was to turn it till a valve (doesn't matter which is first) is sticking out, grab olt to it and pull on it with a slight twisting motion.

attempt to spray with a penertrating oil such as .. WD -40 , PB blaster , if you cant use transission fluid pour it as direct on the valve guides as possible also a small amount of transmission fluid mixed in the gas works as a top cylinder lube for small engines with this problem
