Man, none of you kids remember the awesome Anime movies of the late 80s and early 90s (though they didn't make it over here till like '93ish).

Back in my day, anime was on VHS and it was very difficult (or at least very expensive) to get whole series of anime TV shows. Plus, you couldn't just download it from the internet like you can now

More often we just got the great Anime movies, or occasionally they would put 1 or 2 episodes of a TV show on a tape and call it a movie.

So....sorry kinda got on a rant there.....anyway, to answer your actual question: It's a 4 way tie between Akira/ Vampire Hunter D (the first one)/ Ninja Scroll/ and Fist of the North Star (the movie, not the series)

In the first place would be Ranma 1/2 (romantic comedy), it's from the 80's but I saw it when I was a 8 or 9 years old, so that's why it's so special for me:
Fullmetal Alchemist
Fruits Basket
The Prince of Tennis
Trigun
....I can't think anymore, but I know there are lots more

Panzer is right, these kids have it too easy with their "youtube" and bit torrents. I remember the ol' days where you had that one friend who knew a guy who could get you ovas on VHS, although they weren't exactly the best quality they were plausible, some of my most fondest moments come from watching series like Bastard, Project A-ko, Battle Angel and Fist of the North Star.
