Potassium is found all the way to the left of the periodic table and it is a metal. So the ion would be K+. However, remember that some elements can go to higher states. For example calcium can go Ca+ or Ca2+

i would definately check the answer again, but to my knowledge. the answer should be K+ (the plus sign should be a superscript)
